Can I create my own calculations, for example internal interest on liquidity?

Yes. With custom columns you create formulas like in Excel, for example internal interest on liquidity to date, and show them at project and portfolio level.

Yes. With custom columns you create formulas much like in Excel. A formula is set up once and can be used on all projects. One example is internal interest on the project's liquidity, where liquidity to date is total received minus total paid out, and the formula multiplies by the internal interest rate you use.

How to create an internal interest calculation

  1. Open the column selection in the table and go to Custom columns.

  2. Create a variable for liquidity to date: total received minus total paid out.

  3. Create a new variable that multiplies liquidity to date by the internal interest rate you use.

  4. Give the variable a name, for example «Internal interest to date».

  5. Select the level. If you save at organization level, all projects can use the formula.

  6. Save, and show the column in the table, on the dashboard or in the portfolio.

The Variables window, opened with the Variables button on the dashboard in edit mode. 1: the plus sign that adds a new custom variable with a formula. 2: the variables that apply to the whole organization.

Alternative calculation

The calculation can also be based on whether the project is over- or under-invoiced, i.e. earned revenue versus invoiced.

Good to know

  • The internal interest does not need a forecast. It is calculated from actual incoming and outgoing payments.

  • The formula can be shown at portfolio level, with the figure per project.
