How do I set the right amount on an uncertainty?

The full amount of an uncertainty goes into the final forecast. Here's how to set the right amount when you want to cover the difference between budget and contract, and what remaining uncertainty means.

The full amount you enter on an uncertainty is added to the final forecast. AIMZ does not calculate any difference against the budget or contract itself — it is the amount you enter that counts.

If you want to set aside the excess amount between budget and contract as uncertainty (e.g. because not all of the budget is tied up in a contract yet), you therefore need to calculate and enter the difference yourself — not the full budget amount.

Example: The budget on the production code is NOK 44,861,538, and the contract is NOK 31,029,634. If you want to set aside the rest as uncertainty, enter NOK 13,831,904 (the difference) — not NOK 44,861,538.

What is «remaining uncertainty»?

Posted costs on the production code (prod. code) are first deducted from the basis for the final forecast — in the production phase this is the contract or purchase with its associated cost objects, in the estimate phase the budget (see Account and production code). Only when the posted costs exceed this basis is the rest deducted from the uncertainty.

«Remaining uncertainty» is what is left of the original uncertainty after this deduction. It gives you an ongoing picture of how much of the uncertainty set aside is still available as the project progresses.
