Do I need to import a detailed estimate, or is one total per production code enough?

If you only have one total per production code, importing the production codes with budget is enough. Import the detailed estimate as well when you want to track at line level.

Importing the production codes with one budget total per code is enough if the estimate only exists at that level. The project is then ready for follow-up. If you have a detailed estimate with many lines, you also import the estimate itself once the production codes are in place, so you can track at line level.

Two levels to choose from

  • Estimate total per production code: You import the production codes with budget (cost price) in one column. The budget goes straight onto each code, and the final forecast is based on it.

  • Detailed estimate: You first import the production codes, and then the estimate with all its lines. The lines are mapped to the production codes, and you see the estimate lines inside each code.

How to choose

  1. If you only have totals per trade or code, choose production code.

  2. If you want to see quantities, unit prices and hours per item, choose estimate.

The Import data window, opened from the project menu. 1: import of production codes. 2: import of estimate.

Good to know

  • The production codes must always exist in the project before the estimate lines can be mapped to them.

  • From the import menu you can also import change orders from subcontractors using dedicated templates. This is useful when the project is already under way.
