Should the final forecast be driven by production code or financial account?

In step 3 Import data you choose whether costs should be structured by production codes or financial accounts.

You choose per project whether costs should be structured by production code or financial account (accounting account). You make the choice in step 3 Import data when you create the project, under «Choose how costs should be structured». Production code suits when you follow the estimate items and want to see whether you are producing in line with the estimate. Account suits when finance tracks and reports at account level.

How to choose

  • Production codes: Choose this when the project manager tracks against the estimate, trade by trade. Budget, purchases and change orders are linked to the production codes. Production codes give you both dimensions, since invoices can also be linked to an account.

  • Financial accounts: Choose this when you want one combined pot per account with budget, incurred and remaining, for example purchases, transport and machinery, each with its own account.

Where do I set it?

  1. Create the project, or open Edit project from the project menu at the top of the left menu.

  2. Go to step 3 Import data.

  3. Under Choose how costs should be structured, select Financial accounts or Production codes.

  4. Continue with the import of production codes and estimate, or click Save.

Step 3 Import data in Edit project. 1: The Import data step in the left margin. 2: Choose how costs should be structured. 3: The Financial accounts option. 4: The Production codes option.

Good to know

  • You can change the choice later if the need arises.

  • Invoices can be linked to both dimensions, but the final forecast is tracked on only one of them at a time.
