When should I move an estimate item, and when should I use a transaction?

Move the item in the estimate when it concerns the starting point itself. Use a transaction when you reallocate money later and want traceability.

Move the item in Estimate when the change concerns the starting point itself, typically early in the project. Use a transaction when you reallocate money later and want traceability.

How to move an estimate item

  1. Go to Estimate and open the estimate.

  2. Click Edit above the table, or open the estimate line with the link in the Resource column.

  3. Change Production code on the line, and save.

  4. Go back to the estimate list with the arrow at the top left and click Publish.

The estimate lines in an estimate under Estimate. 1 points to the Edit button above the table, 2 to the Production code column that is changed, and 3 to the Estimate link at the top left that takes you back to the estimate list.

What is the difference?

  • Moving in the estimate changes the original budget. You get no history and no artificial deviations.

  • A transaction changes the revised budget and is stored in the transaction log.

  • Use a transaction when the work is actually carried out differently or on a different production code than estimated. Example: wooden cladding is changed to brick.

  • Also use a transaction when something was forgotten in the estimate and has to be covered from another item.

  • Do not use a transaction to hide an overrun.
