What do I do with a deviation in Own Production?

A deviation occurs when actual consumption differs from the plan. You can approve the deviation or carry it forward to the next month.

A deviation in Own Production occurs when the actual quantity or cost you have logged for a month differs from what was planned. Click the deviation to choose between approving it, so that the final forecast changes, or carrying it forward to the next month, so that the plan is adjusted.

How to handle the deviation

  1. Go to Own Production and find the month marked with a deviation on the line.

  2. Click the deviation.

  3. Choose one of two options:

    • Approve (write off) the deviation: You accept the overspend or underspend. The final forecast on the production code changes accordingly.

    • Carry the deviation forward to the next month: The difference is moved to the next month. The plan is adjusted, and the final forecast stays the same. Use this when you are simply ahead of or behind schedule.

  4. Save.

Which option should I choose?

  • If you have spent more (or less) than planned, and it won't even out later, approve the deviation.

  • If you have simply produced at a different pace than planned, but the total is the same, carry the deviation forward to the next month.

Good to know

  • You can handle deviations on one line at a time.

  • The final forecast and the contribution margin at the top of the page show the effect immediately.

  • The posted cost on the production code is still the actual result. If own production does not roughly match what has been posted, the forecast should be adjusted.
