How do I separate materials from labour hours on a production code for own production?

Create a purchase of the type Purchase for materials and link the material invoices to it, or split labour hours and materials into two production codes in the estimate.

If you have a production code for own production with both materials and labour hours, you can track the materials through Purchasing. Create a purchase of the type Purchase, for example named «Materials», and link the material invoices to it. You then see how much has been invoiced for materials, separate from wages and hours.

How to do it

  1. Go to Purchasing or open the production code, and create a new purchase.

  2. Select Type: Purchase instead of Contract.

  3. Name the purchase «Materials» or something similar.

  4. Add a cost line with the production code and the expected material cost.

  5. Save.

  6. When the material invoices come in, link them to the «Materials» purchase under Invoice.

The Purchasing table. 1: the Type column. 2: a purchase of the type Purchase, used for materials. 3: the name of the purchase.

What about the labour hours?

You track labour hours for your own staff through time registration. If you have an integration with the time registration system, hours come in per production code. The payroll cost comes in as posted cost from the accounts.

Alternative: two production codes

You can also split materials and labour hours into two different production codes already in the estimate. They are then separated automatically in Prod. codes, and invoices land on the right code as long as they are coded correctly in the accounts.
