Build Own Production as detailed as you can actually follow up every month. Many lines give precise reconciliation against the estimate, but more work. Combined lines per type of work give fewer lines to update. For materials, total quantity is often enough, while labour hours can be tracked in more detail.
Two common levels
One line per estimate line: Gives the most detail and the easiest reconciliation against the estimate. On the other hand, you can end up with a very large number of lines to accrue and log. Follow-up quickly adds up when several lines are really the same type of work, for example several plasterboard items.
Combined per type of work: For example one line for labour hours and one for materials per estimate item or type of work. This gives fewer lines to follow up.
How to decide the level
Look at how large the own production is, and who will update it every month.
Track materials by total quantity and total amount. Total quantity is what is used when ordering and in the reconciliation against the estimate.
Track labour hours in more detail if you want to compare with time registration.
Split into several work packages if different crews or trades do the work, for example interior and exterior.
Decide the structure before you enter the lines. Lines can't easily be moved between work packages afterwards.
Good to know
Own Production currently has no automatic grouping by estimate item number. You choose the level of detail yourself when you enter the lines.
