Add a separate line on the Change Order Client where you fill in Cost price, i.e. what you invoice the client, and leave Cost at 0. This gives you revenue for, for example, the project manager's hours, a crane that is already in place, or administration, without adding a cost to the final forecast that doesn't exist.
How to do it
Open the Change Order Client and show the Cost price column in the table, if it is hidden.
Add a line on the right production code, for example wages or site setup.
If you want to show how the amount is calculated, click the three dots on the left of the line and select Cost line. You can then calculate the cost price as quantity × unit price, for example number of hours × hourly rate.
Leave Cost at 0, because no actual additional cost arises.
The markup is added to the cost price and gives the revenue claim.
Save.
What happens when the change order is approved?
The revenue goes to the project's revenue forecast.
The cost price is not recorded as a posted cost, but revises the budget (Rev. budget) on the production code.
The final forecast does not increase, because the cost is 0.
Good to know
This method works well in cost-plus and open-book contracts, where you document the costs to the client. The cost lines can be included in the export.
You can also enter revenue only, without cost and without a production code, for example for administration.
