How do I handle cost-plus work and measurement sheets on a Change Order Client?

Don't lock the revenue claim. Update the change order as work is incurred, preferably by adding new correction lines, so you keep the history.

For cost-plus work, leave the revenue claim on the Change Order Client unlocked, so that revenue follows cost. Update the change order as the work is incurred, by adjusting the quantities or adding a new correction line. Handle measurement sheets the same way: register it as a Change Order Client and update it continuously as the quantities become known.

How to do it

  1. Create a Change Order Client for the cost-plus work or measurement sheet.

  2. Check that the padlock next to the revenue claim is open. Revenue then follows cost.

  3. Enter what is known so far, with quantity and unit price.

  4. When more work is incurred, add a new correction line instead of overwriting the total.

  5. Save. Repeat with each update, for example monthly.

The lines on a Change Order Client. 1: the padlock next to Revenue claim, which locks or unlocks the revenue claim. 2: Add, where you add correction lines.

Why new lines instead of overwriting?

When you add lines, you see the history of what was added and when. If you overwrite the total, you lose track of how the amount has developed.

When should I lock the revenue claim?

Only lock the revenue claim when the change order has a fixed price agreed with the client. Revenue should then not change even if the cost changes.

Good to know

Items that go from fixed price to measurement sheet can be combined in the same change order.
