Why does the project show the wrong contribution margin, or none?

The contribution margin is calculated from revenue and final forecast. If the contract value is missing, no CM is shown, and errors in the estimate give a wrong CM.

The contribution margin (CM) is calculated from the project's revenue and cost. If one of them is missing, no CM is shown. If one of them is wrong, the CM will also be wrong.

If the project does not show a contribution margin

  1. Click the three dots next to the project name at the top of the menu and select Edit project. Go to Contract details and enter the contract value with the client in the Contract value field.

  2. Save. The CM is shown in the top bar when both revenue and cost are in place.

  3. Check that the estimate has been imported and published, so that the project has a final forecast.

The Edit project dialog in AIMZ, the Contract details step. 1 points to the Contract details step in the left menu, 2 to the Contract value field, 3 to the Save button, and 4 to Contribution margin (%) in the top bar.

If the contribution margin is wrong

  1. Check that the estimate has been imported correctly, including own production. An incorrectly imported estimate is a common cause.

  2. Enter general costs that have already been charged to the project.

  3. Check that the revenue forecast is correct, and that change orders against the client have been registered.

Good to know

  • The CM in the top bar is based on the estimate and the final forecast. It is never better than the figures it is calculated from.
